Global Communication Report #2
Management of countermeasures against infections in beef farms
<Report: Misono Tominaga (undergraduate)>
We have supported the management of infectious diseases on dairy and beef farms for a long time.
At the end of October, we visited beef farms in the Hidaka region of Hokkaido with Dr. Rompo (a veterinary trainee from Thailand) and Dr. Itabajara (a researcher on tick biology from Brazil).
After meeting with farmers and staffs of JA (Japan Agricultural Cooperatives), blood samples were collected from cattle for the diagnosis of viral infection. We hope that this test will be useful to the management of infections on the farms.
<A comment of Dr. Rompo>
Following the trip visiting Kuroge wagyu farms, the renown Japanese beef cows, was a wonderful experience.
I have learned more than just veterinary practices. Additionally, I learned about the services of JA which is the cooperative organization, the generously of Japanese farmers, and the intention of researchers to assist farmers in monitoring their cattle disease.
Thank you for let me join the wonderful trip in Hidaka.
