Global Communication Report #12 - Lecture to vet students from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand
On July 21, Dr. Wisa Tiyamanee (Wisa-san, PhD student) gave a lecture to the 6th year students of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Chulalongkorn University who are visiting Japan on an IVEP (International Veterinary Education Program for the Promotion of Veterinary Education) exchange program.
Wisa-san is also an alumna of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. After her graduation of undergraduate course, she entered the doctoral program at Hokkaido University, where she is currently working diligently on research into methods to control chronic infectious diseases in livestock. The juniors who visited us this time were first-year students when Wisa-san was in her fifth year. She introduced the recent highlights of the immunological research of infectious disease conducted in our lab, the daily life as a PhD student in Hokudai, and the reason why she chose to study at our university. Some of the students were interesed in studying in PhD course and they seemed to have a sigmificant exchange of opinions.
After the lecture, the students visited our experiment room, where Dr. Win (a PhD student from Myanmar) was conducting her mite experiment. Win san explained about the problems caused by polutry red mite and the development of anti-mite vaccine. The students observed the live mites and were screaming at the sight that they had never seen before. We hope that the experiences of our seniors will be useful for the future of the young students who will lead the next generation.
