In Memory of Dr. Misao Onuma
A memorial volume for Dr. Misao Onuma, former professor of our lab and Emeritus Professor of our university, who passed away on September 9, 2023, has been published in the "Newsletter of the Japanese Society for Animal Vaccine and Biomedical Research". The Newsletter is a membership journal, but an overview of the Society's activities can be found at the following website in Japanese.
The Japanese Society for Animal Vaccine and Biomedical Research (JSAVBR): http://www.jsavbr.jp/
JSAVBR was established in April 2003 as "The Japanese Society for Animal Cytokine Research (JSACR)" under the leadership of Dr. Onuma as the first chairman, following the Cytokine Project led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the National Institute of Animal Health, Japan. With the intention of Dr. Onuma, the society expanded the scope of research to include not only livestock and poultry, but also companion animals and wild animals, contributing to the development of cytokine research in animals, which was still in its infancy. The society was active in research activities, providing extremely groundbreaking large research grants as well as research grants for young researchers. In the following 20 years, after changing its name to "JSAVBR," the society has been supported to conduct a variety of research activities to meet the ever-changing demands, such as regenerative medicine and antibody medicine for animals.
Coincidentally, this newsletter is also the volume that features the "Latest Researches on Bovine Leukemia," which Dr. Onuma has been passionately devoted to research for many years. Dr. Onuma is surely reading the new findings of the young researchers with great impression somewhere.
Once again, we would like to pay tribute to Dr. Misao Onuma for his many years of contribution and pray for his soul rest in peace.
