Global Communication Report #20 - The history of our collaboration
(by Prof. Carlos Logullo)

1. Introdction
I am Brazilian and I have been collaborationg with Hokkaido University since 2004. I am Biochemistry and my research group has developed research projects involving biochemical strategies to selected new targets for tick control in Brazil and Japan. Since 2004 until now, we maintain the collaboration with the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases at Hokkaido University to advise to Brazilian students, especially doctorate-sandwiches and post-doctorates, and publishing good and impressive papers based on collaborative work. I believe that we have very good international cooperative research because in Japan we consolidated the scientific cooperation and great friends.
2. Our history
Our research group stared the collaboration from 2004 during my post-doctorate, with a fellowship from JSPS, supervised by Dr. Misao Onuma. After that, we have maintained this collaboration together with the group of Dr. Satoru Konnai. These projects have been maintained through research projects supported by CAPES, CNPq (Brazil), JSPS and AMED (Japan).
During my post-doctorate (2004-2005) at Hokkaido University, I characterized proteins that participate on metabolic control in tick development to identify target-proteins for the obtain new strategies control methods. Then, we are sending our students to Hokkaido University since 2006, and come together as visiting researcher to install them.
We have the interruption for three years because of the pandemic situation, but we could restart from 2023 with post-doctorate students and now we are at Hokkaido university with one post-doctorate and one doctorate-sandwich students. As results of this cooperation, we produced tens papers and send many students to Japan.
From now on, we intend to intensify this cooperation involving two Brazilian universities: Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul - UFRGS and Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ, with Hokkaido University.
