Tick sampling

Dr. Cintia lopes（シンチャさん）は、ブラジル・リオデジャネイロ連邦大学（Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro）の大学院生で、ダニの代謝経路に関する共同研究のために昨年8月から当教室に滞在しています。近年、日本でもマダニ媒介性疾病が発生しています。今回は、シンチャさんが松野啓太先生（本学・人獣研）とマダニ媒介性疾病の調査のためにマダニの採取（tick sampling）に行った体験をレポートします。松野先生はマダニによって媒介されるエゾ熱の研究で著名な先生です。写真は今回の調査チームと採取したシュルツェマダニです。
As a student, I have often heard from professors and colleagues who came to Japan for research many positive stories about their experiences here. Among these, the most talked-about—and the one that really caught my interest—was tick sampling, which motivated me to take part in this activity. Although many mentioned the possible risks of encountering bears along the way, which made me a bit nervous at first, it didn’t stop me from wanting to experience it firsthand.
Now, having had the chance to join the tick sampling team here in Japan, I feel very happy and fulfilled to be part of the group and to deepen my knowledge of identifying tick species. I’m sure that, like those who came before me, I’ll share with students and collaborators how much I’ve learned and how valuable this experience has been.
I would like to sincerely thank Konnai-sensei, Matsuno-sensei, and the entire team for giving me this unique opportunity to be part of such an important stage of the research.
